Therapy Staff
Shane Kelly (Head of Physical Therapy)
Role:
- Line manage the British Athletics therapy team.
- Set the therapy aspect of the 2020 Medical and Therapy strategy.
- Manage the NPI therapy clinic.
- Manage a caseload of WCP athletes.
- Responsible for therapy related injury surveillance, profiling and monitoring across the programme.
Gemma Jefferson (Lead physiotherapist for the Paralympic programme)
Role:
- Clinical delivery to NPI based athletes.
- Linking in with remote athletes and remote practitioners to assist with return to training / managing injury.
- Develop strategies to minimise injury risk in athlete groups.
- Lead the Paralympic therapy team at major camps / competitions.
- Travel to other training centres and venues when needed to support athletes training away from the NPI.
Gemma qualified from University of Birmingham in 2004, and then spent 3 years working in the NHS and then in New Zealand. She has spent the last 8 years working in elite sport, with the last 5 years specialising in Paralympic sport.
Alex O’Gorman (Lead Endurance Physiotherapist – Maternity Cover)
Role:
- Providing therapy support to endurance athletes on the WCP.
- Physiotherapy support on camp and at competitions.
- Therapy profiling and monitoring for the endurance programme.
Alex studied Physiotherapy (BSc (Hons)) at Manchester Metropolitan University, gaining a MSc in Strength and Conditioning (University of Salford). He previously worked in NHS orthopaedic rehabilitation and in a private musculoskeletal practice for seven years in Greater Manchester and with international athletes.
