European 24 Hour Ultra-Running Championships

The European 24 Hour Ultra-Running Championships took place, on the track, at San Giovanni, Lupatoto, Verona, Italy and comprised 34 invited athletes, 11 women and 23 men, from 17 different European Countries.

The event was won by Vladimir Bychkov, of Russia, with a distance of 256.609 KM.  The ladies race was won by Irina Koval, also representing Russia, with a distance of 229.267 KM.

Three athletes had been selected to represent Great Britain.  All performed exceptionally well, each of them achieving personal bests.

Jim Rogers (East Hull) finished 4th with a distance of 235.603 KM.  Chris Finill (Harrow A.C.) was 7th achieving 228 KM, and Pauline Walker(Carnegie Harriers) was 4th female, not only reaching 205.614 KM, but also breaking the Scottish Ladies record in the process.
