Liz Yelling is confident she can carry her good form into the Berlin marathon after finishing runner-up in Sunday's Great Scottish half marathon.

The Commonwealth bronze medallist is set to face a star-studded field headed by Japan's Olympic champion Mizuki Noguchi in the German capital on September 24. Her time of 70mins 51secs, just six seconds behind Kenyan winner Caroline Cheptangi, in Glasgow has left her in buoyant mood.

"I ran it at the pace I wanted, picked off a group of Kenyans in the closing stages and still had something left at the end," said Yelling.

After Berlin Yelling plans to have an operation on a shoulder injury that has troubled her since she fell during the Great Edinburgh cross-country international in January. Then she hopes to mount a challenge for a place in the Norwich Union GB team at the European Cross-Country Championships in Italy in December. She said: "I aim to start cross-training pretty soon after the op,  even if I shan't be able to run for a while."

Yelling's commitment to Berlin means she is unavailable to represent Great Britain at the IAAF World Road-Running Championships in Debrecen, Hungary on October 8 over the half-marathon distance.
