It Doesn't Rain, But it Pours

You know when you wait ages for a bus in the rain, getting completely soaked, and then three come at once? Well that kind of describes the last two months for me. Except instead of buses it was a series of unfortunate events.

It began well, with a solid PB run in Berlin of 3:34. I left feeling that there was more to come too which is always nice. I followed that up with an average performance in the European Team Championships which I was fairly disappointed with to be honest, after having run so well the week before.

It was ok though because I was getting ready to get stuck into a good two week block of training; that was until the very next day, when a scan revealed that the pain I had been feeling in my groin for the past couple of weeks was an abductor tear. It was only a grade one tear, which I’m told isn’t so bad, but it did mean at least a week of absolutely no running. Which wasn’t the best piece of news I heard that day.

It meant I would miss my next two races, the Golden League in Oslo and the World Championships Trials in Birmingham. The timing couldn’t have been worse. Fortunately I already had the World Champs qualifying time under my belt from Berlin so I just had to focus on getting back to fitness as soon as possible. I got back to training and things started looking ok again. Then I got hit by the double whammy: first I had a car crash, which was pretty scary. I was very lucky to be ok, but my car...not so much. I left a good portion of my passenger side on the motorway. Oh and also a single Nike Pegasus shoe which flew out of my boot somehow. So if you happen to be driving along the M602 in Manchester keep an eye out for it please. It’s a size 10, white and red, and I’d like it back. Cheers.

I’m not done yet...next I got a tooth infection. Which along with an ear infection is probably one of the most annoying infections you can have. It didn’t stop me running fortunately but it didn’t help my stress levels at the time. Then to top it all off, in an attempt to cheer myself up, I went to watch Harry Potter and the Half-Baked Movie or whatever it’s called, which was rubbish. That Daniel Radcliffe kid just does my head in. Apologies Daniel if you read this blog, which I’m pretty sure you do.

Anyway, things have picked up since them, I’m feeling a lot better after getting back into some racing and am currently at the GB & NI team preparation camp in Portugal before going to Berlin to race on the 15th of August. It’s a pretty awesome place, the weather is nice and the food is great. Training has been going well, and I’m looking forward to racing next week...wish me luck!
