Rebecca Lyne is revelling in competing at Golden League level after finishing second over 800 metres in Oslo on Friday night.

The Yorkshirewoman displayed grit and determination in the home straight and separated Commonwealth gold and silver medallists Janeth Jepkosgei and Kenia Sinclair with another outstanding showing. Lyne, the former European Under-23 champion, was surprisingly omitted from England's team for the trip to Melbourne in March but is beginning to believe in her new-found ability.

Lyne admits linking up with new manager Nic Bideau, who also looks after the affairs of Sonia O'Sullivan, Benita Johnson and Craig Mottram, is already working wonders in terms of presenting her with bigger and better opportunities. She said: "He got me into Hengelo last week (an event she won), and now here I am making my Golden League debut. It's the sort of competition I have always wanted."
