Revitalised Joice Maduaka and Ashia Hansen will chase European Championships entry standards when they compete for England at an international meeting in Berne, Switzerland, on Saturday 22 July.

A week after becoming the most bemedalled athlete in the history of AAA Championships, Maduaka will be chasing the UKA 200m Elite Entry standard of 23.00 seconds for the European Championships in Gothenburg.

Her 100m and 200m Gold medals at the Norwich Union European Trials incorporating the UK Championships and AAA of England Championships in Manchester took her tally to 17. And her 100m lifetime best of 11.23 seconds demonstrated her form and enthusiasm remain great at the age of 32. But she still needs to accelerate to earn a 200m place in Gothenburg.

Hansen, the former World Indoor and Commonwealth triple jump Champion, will continue her return from a serious knee injury that kept her out of action for two years.

She returned to action by finishing second with a leap of 13.65m at the Norwich Union European Trials, incorporating the UK Championships and AAA of England Championships, Manchester last Saturday.

She will be aiming to get closer to the UKA Elite Standard for Gothenburg of 14.10m in Switzeland.
