Fell Racing

UK Athletics has accepted in principle a proposal that is aimed at supporting more coaches of fell runners, particularly youngsters.

The plan is to introduce an introductory fell coaching course at Fell and Mountain Running coaches’ Level 2 (FMR2) that would be suitable for coaches who currently do not wish to coach beyond Level 2 (or whose specialisation is not fell running) but do wish to support fell runners (particularly junior runners).

If there is sufficient demand, UKA is willing to support the development of FMR2 and its possible implementation in autumn 2007.

To help the national governing body and the Fell Runners’ Association assess demand, coaches who are qualified (or expect to soon be qualified) at Level 1 and who would be interested in attending an FMR2 course are asked to express their interest in an email to coaching@fellrunner.org.uk or by phoning Pete Shields (01943 864755) or Geoff Howard (01943 607799).

The new course would be in addition to the Fell and Mountain Running coaches’ Level 3 technical module, known as FMR3, which was launched successfully in November 2006.
