11 September 2014

The nominees should be highly regarded for volunteering their time to deliver a quality service “against all odds”. The officials face many challenging circumstances to perform their roles to these high standards.

This is a chance to enlighten many on the work that officials put into their clubs and the track and field competitions. The nominees should work for the club or league as an organiser, official, team manager or helper which shows the breadth of tasks and/ or the time they have carried out to perform their roles.

The British Association of Track and Field Leagues’ (BATFL) represents a wide range of events from UK Young Athletes Leagues (UKYAL) to the British Athletics League (BAL).

The officials play a key role in the domestic framework of track and field in this country and this award represents a celebration of their services and their achievements. The organisation and successful running of domestic competitions relies on club officials who give their time to athletics and this is your chance to reward someone who makes this possible.

Cherry Alexander MBE of UK Athletics commented on the award saying;

‘It is very fitting that the Frank Starkie award continues to provide recognition for deserving volunteers. Frank was unique, he provided a solid foundation for athletics and cared about the athletes and the journey they made through the age groups. It is wonderful that his name lives on through this award.’

Nominations can only be made by clubs, who are members of leagues affiliated to BATFL. Nominees must be a member of a track and field club that competes in “League” athletics.

If you wish to nominate someone who fulfills the criteria, then these should be made to Alan Johnson by 30 November 2014. The officers of BATFL will decide the winner.

Alan Johnson, Secretary BATFL, 6 Fir Tree Crescent, Dukinfield, Cheshire, SK16 5EH
