Paul Dickenson

UK Athletics is saddened to hear of the passing of Paul Dickenson, two-time Olympian and long-time television BBC commentator at the age of 74

As an athlete, Paul Dickenson competed in the 1976 and 1980 Olympics with a hammer best of 73.20m.

Later in his career he was also a successful coach advising a number of talented throwers in recent years including Jake Norris and Taylor and Bayley Campbell.

UKA CEO Jack Buckner said: ‘Paul’s voice became synonymous with a memorable generation of athletics viewing. Like many of the most successful commentators his words formed an important backdrop to key sporting moments for many years.

‘Both athletics and the wider sports-watching public will miss him and he leaves behind a strong legacy in both our sport and broadcasting. Our thoughts are very much with his family and friends.’
