Lewis - A season's best clearance of 5.71m

03 March 2010

British pole vaulters Steve Lewis (Newham & Essex Beagles) and Kate Dennison (Sale Harriers Manchester) showed top form in their final Aviva Great Britain and Northern Ireland team preparations ahead of next week’s IAAF World Indoor Championships in Doha (Friday 12 – Sunday 14 March) with victories in the Paris-Charlety meeting last night (Tuesday 2 March).

Lewis, a world outdoor finalist last summer, produced a season's best clearance of 5.71m to tie for first place with European indoor champion Renaud Lavillenie, the 2009 World Championships bronze medallist.

25-year-old Dennison, who has raised her UK indoor record twice this year to date, claimed the women's title with a vault of 4.56m, four centimetres below her latest national indoor best of 4.60m set in the recent Aviva Grand Prix in Birmingham (20 February) and her fifth victory in eight indoor competitions this season.
