Dwain Chambers is expected to return from his drugs ban at the Norwich Union Grand Prix in Gateshead on Sunday.

Cubie Seegobin, the runner's agent, is "very optimistic" his client will get the all-clear from the IAAF who were seeking repayment of money he earned in the year before he failed a drugs test for steriods in August 2003.

"We are close to an agreement with some minor outstanding issues pending but I am very optimistic that he will run this weekend," Seegobin told the Times. "We are working around the clock towards that."

Chambers' chances of being permitted to race again, depends on the IAAF accepting that the European 100 metres champion simply does not have the funds to even make a 20% downpayment on the £100,000 he is said to owe.
