Continuing the popular Coaching Masterclass Series, UKA and England Athletics will host a trio of sessions focusing on jumps, speed and combined events on the morning of the Aviva London Grand Prix on Saturday 14 August at the Jurys Inn Croydon Hotel, contributing further to the development opportunities ongoing throughout UKA’s Year of the Coach.

In addition, and building on the success of the Endurance Q&A’s held in conjunction with the IAAF World Half Marathon and the Aviva Grand Prix, both in Birmingham, the UKA Endurance Coaching Conference programme continues in London with a gathering of endurance expertise at the Croydon Park Hotel prior to the showcase televised event of the summer.

UKA Endurance Q&A Conference

Tim Hutchings, renowned athletics commentator, twice World Cross Country silver medallist and fourth place finisher in the 1984 LA Olympics 5000m will act as host for the in depth Q&A with Ricky Simms, Terrence Mahon and Alberto Salazar.

Simms, one of the world’s leading agents and coach to world champions Vivian Cheruiyot and Linet Masai and 2010 World Cross Country champion Joseph Ebyu, is also advisor to UK number one and European 10,000m champion Mo Farah.

Terrence Mahon, the former Olympic marathon athlete, is based at altitude at Mammoth Lakes (California) and coach to Ryan Hall, US Half Marathon record holder and the first American to break one hour for the distance and Deena Kastor, the 2004 Olympic Marathon bronze medallist.

Alberto Salazar, three times New York Marathon winner and coach to Kara Goucher, Adam Goucher, Dathan Ritzenhein and Galen Rupp, makes up the trio of endurance experts.

Masterclass – Speed

John Smith, coach to World Championships bronze medallist Carmelita Jeter and formerly Head Sprints Coach at UCLA and coach to four Olympic champions - Steve Lewis (400m), Maurice Greene (100m/200m), Marie-Jose Perec (200m/400m) and Kevin Young (400mH) - is the lead speaker at the Speed Masterclass session which will be hosted by Tony Lester and Tony Hadley.

Masterclass – Jumps

John Herbert and John Crotty will host the Jumps Masterclass with Loren Seagrave, one of the leading coaches in the world for long jump and speed development.

Seagrave, coach to world champion Dwight Phillips and Angelo Taylor, is a leading coach educator and has contributed significantly to the IAAF coaching programme.

This session follows a year’s planning cycle for an elite long jumper in preparation for a World title, incorporating preparation for the US Trials and competing on the circuit.

Masterclass – Hurdles and Combined Events

With a focus on female sprint hurdling and an approach to planning for Combined Events athletes at elite level, premier sprints and hurdles coach Bob Kersee will present to an audience hosted by Malcolm Arnold, Toni Minichiello and Darrell Bunn.

Kersee has guided numerous athletes to Olympic, World, US and NCAA titles including Allyson Felix to 200m silver and 4 x 400m gold in Beijing 2008 and Shawn Crawford and Kerron Clement to Beijing Olympic silver medals in the 200m and 400mH respectively, in addition to contributing to the gold medal success of the US 4 x 400m relay team on that occasion.

Along with his wife Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Kersee also coached Gail Devers – at one time one of the top ranked female high hurdlers in the world - to several Olympic and World Championship medal performances.
