Commonwealth champion Christine Ohuruogu might revise her European Championship aspirations after finishing last over 400 metres at the Norwich Union London Grand Prix at Crystal Palace.

Ohuruogu, in her first race over the distance since her gold medal success in Melbourne, laboured behind the high-quality field as Sanya Richards set a UK Allcomers record of 49.05seconds.

The 22-year-old Londoner, who has been troubled by an Achilles injury and whose only competition was over 200m at the recent Norwich Union trials for the European Championships 12 days ago, looked totally out of shape.

Ohuruogu, already selected for Gothenburg, was clearly nowhere near the form she will need to challenge for a medal there, posting a very slow time of 52.43secs.

Richards dominated the one-lap contest, easily smashing the 23-year-old previous UK Allcomers mark set by Czechoslovakia's Tatana Kocembova.

The world silver medallist finished ahead of the Jamaican pair Novlene Williams and Shericka Williams, who clocked 50.24secs and 50.44secs respectively.

Nicola Sanders, who has switched from the 400m hurdles to the flat distance, again beat her personal best with an excellent fourth place in 50.68secs.
