Norwich Union GB team for Combined Events International

UK Athletics has named an in-form Norwich Union Great Britain and Northern Ireland team for a combined events international for Under 23s and Under 20s against France and Spain at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre, London, on 24-25 February*.

 

The team includes nine medallists from this winter’s England Indoor Combined Events Championships and is led by the four athletes currently heading the Power of 10 rankings, devised by UK Athletics and its governing partners to raise standards in every event in every age group in every region on the way to London 2012.

 

Kevin Sempers, is head of the Senior Men’s heptathlon rankings, Katia Lannon top of the Senior Women’s pentathlon list, Daniel Awde No.1 in the Under 20 Men’s heptathlon and Jenny Lumley leading the Under 20 Women’s pentathlon.

 

National senior combined events champions Sempers and Lannon are joined in the Under 23 team by senior women’s pentathlon bronze medallist Gemma Weetman.

 

All six Under 20 medallists are in the line-up – champions Daniel Awde and Jenny Lumley, silver medallists Sam Worrall and Hannah Francis-Smithson, and bronze medallists Joe Lancaster and Amy Hill.

 

The full team is:

 

Under 23 Men: Craig Baker (Worthing and District AC), Patrick Halcrow (Thurrock Harriers), Richard Reeks (Poole AC), Kevin Sempers (Belgrave Harriers).

 

Under 23 Women: Phyllis Agbo (Thames Valley Harriers), Naida Bromley (Wakefield and District Harriers), Katia Lannon (Sale Harriers Manchester), Gemma Weetman (Oswestry Olympians).

 

Under 20 Men: Daniel Awde (Woodford Green with Essex Ladies), Matthew George (Vale of Aylesbury), Joe Lancaster (Sale Harriers Manchester), Sam Worrall (Derby AC).

 

Under 20 Women: Hannah Francis-Smithson (Leeds City AC), Amy Hill (City of Sheffield AC), Jenny Lumley (Leeds City AC), Caryl Granville (Carmarthen Harriers).

 

*  Events on the Saturday start at 11.45 with the U20 60m heats, finishing with the U23 High Jump starting at 5.15pm.

 

Sunday kicks off with U20 men’s 60mH at 10.30am, with the last event scheduled at 6.30pm with the U23 women’s 800m.
