UK Athletics today announces the selection guidelines for Seniors and Under 23s seeking places in the Norwich Union Great Britain and Northern Ireland Team for the European AA Winter Throws Challenge that will take place in Yalta, Ukraine, on 17-18 March.

The meeting is primarily seen as an opportunity for athletes with the potential to qualify for this summer’s IAAF World Championships and European Under 23 Championships.

Qualifying guidelines – guidelines, note, not standards that guarantee selection – are as follows:

Senior Men: shot 19.30m, discus 61.25m, hammer 72.50m, javelin 76.20m.

Senior Women: shot 16.95m, discus 57.80m, hammer 65.50m, javelin 57.80m.

Under 23 Men: shot 17.95m, discus 56.60m, hammer 66.20m, javelin 72.00m.

Under 23 Women: shot 16.30m, discus 52.80m, hammer 63.30m, javelin 52.80m.

All throws need to be with senior implements.

The team, with a maximum of two throwers per event per age group, will be selected on Monday 5 March.

Performances in 2006 will be taken into consideration, though athletes may be asked to show current form. The UK Athletics Event Management Group, which has helped throwers at squad weekends throughout the winter, will organise a competition opportunity on Saturday 24 February if it is required.
