Christine Ohuruogu London 2012
10 June 2014

Christine Ohuruogu (coach: Lloyd Cowan) and Adam Gemili (Steve Fudge) have withdrawn from this weekend’s Sainsbury’s Glasgow Grand Prix on 11-12 July.

After missing a block of training earlier in the summer, Ohuruogu, the 2013 World Champion does not feel ready to race the 400m on Saturday. However, the British record holder is working back to fitness in advance of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Cowan said: “Christine missed a block of training earlier in the summer and has been working hard to get back to race fitness.  She is still a few weeks away from race shape but has made good progress in the past few weeks.  We are working to get her ready for the 4x400m at the Commonwealth Games.”

Ohuruogu added: “I am sorry that I will be unable to run at the Sainsbury’s Glasgow Grand Prix in Glasgow. I am training hard to perform well in Glasgow in three weeks and need to get some more sessions in the bank.”

Even in Ohuruogu’s absence, there is still a stellar line-up on show in the women’s 400m. USA’s Sanya Richards-Ross, who won the Diamond league event in Paris last weekend, will face world silver medallist, Amantle Montsho and the Diamond Race leader, Novelene Mills-Williams from Jamaica.

Further to this, Gemili has pulled out of the Sainsbury’s Glasgow Grand Prix as a precaution after running 10.04 in Mannheim last weekend. Gemili was expected to run in the 200m in Glasgow but needed to ease some stiffness he has felt since the race in Germany last weekend.

However, the 200m still promises to be another world-class event with British Champion, Danny Talbot (Dan Cossins) going head-to-head with Olympic 200m bronze medallist Warren Weir as well as Diamond Race leader Alonso Edward from Panama.
